      <description>FRANKLIN, Tenn. &#45; Aug. 23, 2010 &#45; To raise awareness of mental health issues and solutions for the military, Psychiatric Solutions, Inc. (PSI) (NASDAQ: PSYS) and its PSI Patriot Support initiative recently sponsored a booth at the 2010 TRICARE Communications and Customer Service conference in New Orleans.
The conference gave more than 500 Military Health System customer service and communications staff the opportunity to network and learn about changes to military healthcare benefits and focus on providing the best possible services to their customers.

&#8220;Anytime we have a platform to talk about our Patriot Support facilities and the services and treatment available, we take advantage,&#8221; said Andy Laning, executive director of military affairs for PSI. &#8220;The conference offered us a great networking experience and up&#45;to&#45;date information about what is happening in military healthcare.&#8221;

Keynote speaker Christine Humber, deputy director of TRICARE Management Activity, and motivational speaker Jake Poore presented at the Aug. 3 &#45; 5 event. PSI Patriot Support served as the only behavioral health supporter at the conference.

      <title>Fighting Back: Responding to the Increased Need for PTSD Treatment</title>

      <description>The continuous deployments and rotations of our armed service members are taking a heavy toll on their lives.&amp;nbsp; This stress manifests itself in both drug and alcohol treatment abuse and mental health disorders.&amp;nbsp; In the past year, we have experienced a 34 percent surge in inpatient admissions of veterans, and a 15 percent increase in active duty members seeking help.

Estimates from numerous recent studies predict 35 percent of our fighting forces will suffer from Post&#45;Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).&amp;nbsp; This is compared to the recognized rate of 4 percent in the general public.

We see PTSD more frequently in our military patient population.&amp;nbsp; It is not always directly connected to the soldier&#8217;s experience in combat.&amp;nbsp; In one case, a patient&#8217;s severe childhood physical and sexual abuse trauma occurred before he entered the Army and was exacerbated on a tour of duty in Iraq, which later became extremely debilitating.

We have responded to the increased need for PTSD treatment by providing a specialized group therapy option during their inpatient stay that continues to our outpatient level of care in the partial hospitalization or IOP.&amp;nbsp; Clinical continuity is maintained by having the same clinician at all levels of programming.&amp;nbsp; The PTSD service can be accessed at any level of care.

Alcohol still appears to be the abused drug of choice here in our location in Las Vegas.&amp;nbsp; Once treatment is successfully started, we are finding more and more PTSD issues needing to be addressed.&amp;nbsp; Our troops appear to need us more, necessitating for longer duration of treatment.&amp;nbsp; Our voluntary supportive Aftercare program has seen increased participation by our service members, as well.

The difficulties are not just taking a toll on the military personnel.&amp;nbsp; Family members are also suffering.&amp;nbsp; We have seen an increased number of soldiers being returned home through the American Red Cross because they have family members here in treatment at Montevista.

It has been said when a young man or woman joins the military, they are signing a blank check payable to the United States of America for a value up to and including their lives. The PSI Patriot Support designed initiative is to ensure that the check is never cashed due to lack of treatment for their psychological or chemical dependency challenges.

      <description>COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.&amp;nbsp; &#45; (July 19, 2010) &#45; Cedar Springs Hospital, a Psychiatric Solutions, Inc. (PSI) facility, recently co&#45;sponsored a community training event entitled &#8220;Caring for Military Behavioral Health Patients.&#8221;&amp;nbsp; The event took place on July 9 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Colorado Springs.&amp;nbsp; The Southern Colorado Coalition of Acute Behavioral Healthcare Providers and TriWest Healthcare Alliance also served as co&#45;sponsors.
The event familiarized outpatient behavioral health providers about treatment programs and protocols for military patients and their family members who may be experiencing mental health issues associated with deployment.&amp;nbsp; The goal was to equip providers with information needed to better identify and treat these patients.

Presentation topics included PTSD, substance abuse, Veterans Affairs, and TriCare, among others.

The event attracted national representatives from TriWest, along with representatives from Fort Carson and several community providers.

The event offered Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to physicians, nurses and social workers who attended.

The Southern Colorado Coalition&#8217;s primary objective is to provide local military installations with sound information regarding services offered, as well as to open the door for feedback pertaining to the military&#8217;s needs, what the facilities may do to improve their military services and what is needed from military representatives when treating soldiers and airmen.

      <description>PETERSBURG, Va. &#8212; (June 2, 2010) &#8212; To address the growing need for service members with drug and alcohol problems, Poplar Springs Hospital has created a dedicated military substance abuse program at the full&#45;service behavioral health facility. David Brady, D.O, serves as clinical director of the substance abuse program as part of a larger active duty military treatment program at Poplar Springs.
Treatment begins with a thorough assessment. Based on the assessment findings, service members are placed in different parts of the TRICARE&#45;certified programs at the facility. Poplar Springs utilizes the American Society of Addiction Medicine criteria, factoring in the severity of addiction, community supports, co&#45;morbid mental and physical conditions, and potential for complicated withdrawal to guide their treatment recommendations.&amp;nbsp;

Dr. Brady understands military life and knows the challenges military personnel and their families face. With a well&#45;rounded medical, and psychiatric background, Brady oversees the Active Duty Military Unit. Poplar Springs has treated hundreds of soldiers for the emotional and psychological effects of military stress and post&#45;deployment adjustment&#45;related issues&#8212;including substance abuse.

&#8220;Poplar Springs understands the impact that military service has on our service members and their families,&#8221; said Brady. &#8220;After touring several of the military installations within the Eastern Seaboard Region and speaking with military officials about their needs, we built a military substance abuse program at Poplar Springs designed specifically for these groups. We have streamlined treatment programs to address their issues and treatment priorities. We will actively continue discussions to determine the best course of action to prevent future patterns of substance abuse and help mitigate the current issues.&#8221;&amp;nbsp;

The active duty military unit at Poplar Springs Hospital regularly treats military personnel from Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Maryland with individual military personnel coming from as far away as Michigan and Pennsylvania.&amp;nbsp;

      <title>The Brook Hospitals Partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters for &#8220;Mentoring Military Children&#8221;</title>

      <description>LOUISVILLE, Ky. &#8211; (June 1, 2010) &#8211; Mentoring youth has been the focus of Big Brothers Big Sisters since its inception more than 100 years ago. The Brook Hospitals, Psychiatric Solutions, Inc. (PSI) facilities, recently announced they will join their mission to provide support to military families.
The Big Brothers Big Sisters program will respond to the needs of children in military families with its &#8220;Mentoring Military Children&#8221; initiative. The program matches children who have a parent deployed or in the process of deployment. It is open to the children of active duty Military, Reservist and National Guard Soldiers. Once the child is matched, Big Brothers Big Sisters provides mentor support with special events, outings and activities.

Since 2001, nearly 900,000 troops with children have been deployed to Afghanistan, Iraq and the Persian Gulf. The Pentagon estimates that currently 234,000 children have a mother or father deployed.

&#8220;Children with mothers and fathers in the military often suffer from increased levels of fear and anxiety or may experience behavioral problems,&#8221; said Paul Andrews, chief executive officer of The Brook Hospital &#8211; Dupont and The Brook Hospital &#45; KMI. &#8220;With high levels of military deployment and repeat tours of duty, partnering with Big Brothers Big Sisters allows our staff to assist families and their children in the Fort Knox area who need help coping with the stress and complications that multiple deployments might cause.&#8221;

Most recently, The Brook Hospitals sponsored a breakfast to kick off the &#8220;Mentoring Military Children&#8221; initiative. The event was held at the Leaders Club at Fort Knox.

&#8220;The Big Brothers Big Sisters mission falls right in line with our mission: to provide military families with the help and support they need as they bravely serve our country,&#8221; said Andrews. &#8220;As they proudly serve us, we want to serve them.&#8221;

In addition to their support of the &#8220;Mentoring Military Children&#8221; initiative, The Brook Hospital &#8211; Dupont is also designated as a PSI Patriot Support Center, an expanded program that provides behavioral health services to military members and their families at PSI facilities around the country.

      <description>Army OneSource recently introduced a community outreach program to raise awareness of the unique challenges of Military life on Service members and their families, and to address the growing demand for behavioral health services.
Sponsored by the U.S. Army, Army OneSource has launched a formal campaign to encourage civilian health and behavioral health providers to complete a FREE online course in the series, &#8220;Treating the Invisible Wounds of War.&#8221; The series of courses help primary care physicians, case workers, mental health providers and other professionals develop a better understanding of the culture in which Service members and Veterans, as well as their families, live and work.

In today&#8217;s combat situation &#8211; where there is no front line and constant vigilance must be maintained on the ground, where individuals are serving as many as four deployments that are longer in duration than in the past, and where Service members and families are asked to give more because of the all&#45;volunteer&#45;military, it has become true that, &#8220;the wounds of war are not limited to the battlefield.&#8221; The courses provide best practices for identifying, assessing and treating behavioral health problems that result from the trauma of war.

To complete the course, please follow instructions below:

From your browser, go to http://www.aheconnect.com/citizensoldier
Step 1: Click on New Users tab at the top of the screen
Step 2: Create a personal user account following the instructions on the screen
NOTE: Be sure to enter your Army OneSource referral code: AOSwtx3 in the space provided. If you don&#8217;t have a referral code, contact your local Army OneSource Community Support Coordinator.
Step 3: Login to the system using your new ID and password
Step 4: Click on Courses tab at the top of the screen
Step 5: Select a course you wish to complete.
Step 6: Click on Register
Once you complete a course, your CEU will be recorded, and you will have access to download and print a Certificate of Completion.

      <title>Treatment Success: Meeting the Mental Health Needs of Military Members</title>

      <description>When asked to describe our program at Peak Behavioral Health Services, LLC, I am taken by the numerous stories and rich personalities that I have met over the last 11 months.

In my eyes, there have been many success stories as a result of our program. I can tell you about the soldier who attempted suicide by rolling his car over on a desolate highway in southern New Mexico, and how we knew it would be a difficult case. His depression was so severe that he could not see past the helplessness and hopelessness. However, he engaged in therapy and turned his life to a higher power. That soldier is now in his first year of college and completed the L.A. Marathon two months after graduating from our program.&amp;nbsp;

Or, we can talk about the young soldier who refused to tell us what was bothering him, but, due to our clinical teams experience and knowledge, noticed the signs and symptoms of schizophrenia. When he was reassured by us that we knew what was wrong, he opened up to us and his treatment was adjusted. He completed our program successfully and he begins college next fall at Penn State University.&amp;nbsp;

We can mention the soldier who was the victim of domestic violence, and both soldier and spouse suffered from PTSD. Both of them were counseled and both sought long&#45;term treatment. Today, they have completed their programs successfully and are doing well.

The reality is &#8211; we are blessed to have so many memories and the opportunity to help so many soldiers in their time of need.

With the assistance of Xavier Alvarez, director of military affairs, we have helped many. We&#8217;ve decided to step outside the box and find unconventional ways to reach the soldiers: bicycle rides thru the Rio Grande Valley and process groups on their return based on recovery and the importance of the physical component to recovery, or weekly visits to the bookstore in an effort to educate them on their disorders, and daily physical training. The wounds we have helped heal are many, but the sacrifice they make for our country is priceless.&amp;nbsp;
